There has been a bit of info on the quake-servers list, perhaps
you will find it in the archive at
ftp://ftp.premier.net/pub/lists/quake-servers/
I have tried to put together those postings from John Cash, but I
am currently drowning in other obligations. There is a very
recommendable description of the DEM recording format at
Uwe Girlich's page. The DEM format is nearly, perhaps completely
identical to the network protocol.
See
http://www.physik.uni-leipzig.de/~girlich/games/
which is in the still upcoming (sorry about the delay) update
of the QDP. Btw., he uses a modified Linuxdoc-SGML which I'd
like to recommend for Specs.
