====================================================================== Archive Maintainer : UFO2 is simply a conversion of an old Dmgraph patch to standard wad format. The original version simply consisted of 13 .gif images and required the Dmgraph utility to permanently modify your doom.wad iwad. The original also didn't include any sounds. Update to : ./idgames/graphics/ufo.zip Advanced engine needed : no Primary purpose : No levels included. This is a graphics-only wad. ====================================================================== Title : UFO (version 2) Filename : ufo2.wad Release date : 6 Dec 2000 Author : R.A. Snow Email Address : R.A.SNOW@BRA0110.WINS.ICL.CO.UK Version 2 Update by : Sparky of KISS Software kelm@eisa.net.au Description : This wad simply replaces the Cacodemon with a UFO. New to this version: - converted the Dmgraph patch to wad format - added the missing sprite frames (heada3a7, headb3b7, headc3c7, headd3d7) - clipped the unused space from the images to halve the size of the wad. - adjusted the vertical and horizontal offsets of the sprites. - added four sounds - UFO nearby, sees player, injured and death sounds (see known bugs below). Additional Credits to : - The authors of the modern utilities which make this kind of conversion possible. - Ty Halderman - the Doom Archive Maintainer at Walnut Creek for finally relenting (after 2 years), and allowing me to update the old Dmgraph patches in the archive. ====================================================================== * What is included * New levels : none Sounds : Yes Music : No Graphics : Yes Dehacked/BEX Patch : No Demos : No Other : No Other files required : If played with 'Plain Vanilla' Doom or Doom2 you'll need a utility to patch ufo2.wad with the extra sprites from doom.wad or doom2.wad; such as: DeuSF, WinTex, NWT, etc. For example: deusf -as ufo2.wad This will GREATLY increase the size of ufo2.wad. A MUCH better option is to use a Doom Source Port that can import pwads containing sprite graphics (most of them). Patching is not required with these ports and ufo2.wad can be used as-is; for example: boom -file ufo2.wad To quickly check out the new UFO, try the following Doom/Doom2 levels: Doom/UDoom - lots of UFOs - E2M9 - idclev29 Doom II - few UFOs - map24 - idclev24 lots of UFOs - map18 - idclev18 * Play Information * Game : Doom, Ultimate Doom or Doom II Map # : n/a - wad contains sprites and sounds only Single Player : yes Cooperative 2-4 Player : yes Deathmatch 2-4 Player : yes * Construction * Base : ./idgames/graphics/ufo.zip Build Time : about 3 hours including searching for sounds and testing. Editor(s) used : Dmgraph, WinTex, DeuTex, Paint Shop Pro Known Bugs : - the UFO 'pain' sound is shared with the demons, spectres, Barons, Lost Souls and Hell Knights. - the UFO 'nearby' sound is shared with the demons and spectres. May Not Run With... : an SNES emulator * Copyright / Permissions * Authors MAY use the contents of this file as a base for modification or reuse.
