=========================================================================== Advanced engine needed : ZDoom/GZDoom or Vavoom Primary purpose : Single Player =========================================================================== Title : Heretic - Call of the Apostate Filename : APOSTATE.WAD Release date : April 24, 2011 Author : Stormwalker Email Address : massesareasses@hotmail.com Other Files By Author : vordakk.wad meleebtl.wad tele13.wad phobmass.wad infernus.wad Misc. Author Info : - Description : An Episode 3 replacement for HERETIC. The episode is laid out so that levels 1-3 are inspired by E1, levels 4, 9, and 5 by E2, and levels 6-8 by E3. Expect a boss fight every 3rd level. I tried to make the difficulty progress nicely so that the beginning is easy but by the end you'll be given some tough fights. I also tried to balance ammo so that each level could be completed from "elvenwand start". A source port that can support DECORATE (ZDoom or Vavoom) is required to run this episode. However, the wad was designed and plays in a rather old-school manner. If you choose to play this levelset you will see why I did it this way. I hope this doesn't stop purists from enjoying the levels. I disabled crouching and jumping, and to make the experience more classic, you should refrain from using freelook if you can. I STRONGLY recommend ZDoom because it renders the levels exactly as I intended them; Vavoom does not. The Story: ...After defeating D'Sparil in the original HERETIC, Corvus stepped through the portal and returned to the realm of Parthoris. But soon after his arrival, it became clear that the evil magic of the youngest Serpent Rider still threatened to tear asunder the home of the Sidhe elves. Alarmed, Corvus sought the counsel of a Sidhe sage who had recently come out of hiding. The wise man revealed a prophecy which spoke of a wicked necromancer whose true name was unknown to all but the Serpent Riders themselves. It was said that this creature, known only as the Apostate, would use the blackest of magics to resurrect any of the Serpent Riders should they fall to a mortal. Upon hearing the prophecy, Corvus suddenly realized that his suspicions were indeed true; Parthoris would soon be attacked again if he did not act fast. The mighty Sidhe elf took up his trusty elvenwand and set out to hunt D'Sparil a second time. But unlike before, Corvus now understood that in order to truly vanquish D'Sparil forever, he must defeat the dreaded Apostate as well... Additional Credits to : Grafton Brazil and Judge for playtesting the levels, Kristian Kall for his helpful tips and advice, Eriance for the custom sprites and sounds, Tormentor667 for keeping Realm667 alive, Raven software for making HERETIC, and ID software for making the DOOM engine. =========================================================================== * What is included * New levels : Yes, E3M1-E3M9, E2M1 Sounds : Yes Music : No Graphics : Yes Dehacked/BEX Patch : No Demos : No Other : No Other files required : - * Play Information * Game : HERETIC - Shadow of the Serpent Riders Map # : E3M1-E3M9, E2M1 Single Player : Designed for Cooperative 2-4 Player : No Deathmatch 2-4 Player : No Other game styles : - Difficulty Settings : Not implemented (play UV) * Construction * Base : New from scratch Build Time : 7 Months Editor(s) used : Doom Builder 2, XWE, SLADE3 Known Bugs : A few slime trails that were unavoidable due to the DOOM engine's coding, if any major bugs are discovered please e-mail me so I can release a proper fix.
