Revise date: 12-4-05 ======================================= SvStrife 1.4 ======================================= =================== Whats Strife? =================== Strife (released in 1996) is a Doom-engine game created by Rogue Entertainment and Velocity. It offered an RPG-like action game, with heavy story elements and voice-acting. Strife features 31 levels and multible endings based on your actions thoughout the game. =================== Whats SvStrife? =================== After the release of Doom's source code in 1998, the source code of Strife was meant to be released as well but it never happened. The source code eventually got lost. Since Strife was originally designed for DOS, Strife wasn't very compatible on WinNT operating systems such as Windows 2000 and XP. SvStrife aims to recreate the Strife game detail by detail while running on Windows 2000 and XP. =================== Starting the game =================== Upon starting, you will see the main menu. The following options are: *New Game -Begins a new game. After selection this option, you will need to name your game slot. After that you will need to choose a difficulty setting. (More on this further in the text file). *Load Game -Loads a saved game *Save Game -Saves your current game. You can save at anytime during gameplay. *Options -Opens the options menu. (More on this further in the text file) *Quit Game -Exits the game =================== Using the Launcher =================== Included with SvStrife is Slaunch, a launching tool uses to make passing parameters easy. Use this if you wish to set parameters without having to use batch files. *File -Run Game: Launches the game with the parameters set -Load Configuration: Loads a saved config file -Save Configuration: Saves a config file. Note: it is recomended that you have this file saved in the main Strife directory. *Executable -Set the path for svstrife.exe *Iwad File -Set the path for the main Strife data file (called STRIFE1.wad) Note: it is recomended that you have this file in the same directory as svstrife.exe *Pwad File -Set the path for homebrew data files *Sehacked File -Set the path for game hacking files *Fast Monsters -If set will cause the enemies to be extra aggressive *Respawning Monsters -If set will cause enemies to respawn after they die. *No Monsters -If set will cause no enemies to appear, including NPC's *Turbo -Setting this will adjust the player's movment speed. Default is 100 *No Sound Effects -If set will disable all sound *No Sound -If set will disable sound *No Music -If set will disable music *No Voice -If set will disable voices/speeches *Warping -If enabled will automatically warp you to the selected level. *Set Resolution -Sets the resolution *Fullscreen -If checked will set SvStrife in either fullscreen or window mode *Spawn Allies per level -If checked will spawn 'helper' bots to guide you though the levels. =================== The Options menu =================== There is a lot of stuff here, so I will make it short as possible *GENERAL -Enable Translucency: Toggles translucent effects -Trans. Filter Percentage: Sets the "strenght" of the translucent effect. -Fullscreen vidoe mode: Toggles fullscreen or window mode -Flash Hom Indicator: Developer mode only, don't worry about this -Number of sound channels: sets how many sounds to be played at once. -Enable Pitch Effects: toggles pitches -Enable Mouse: Toggles mouse -Enable Joystick: Toggles joystick -Preload files: Type in the name of custom data files for Svstrife to automatically load. -Player corpses: Used for deathmatch (not functional) -Game Speed: toggles the player movment speed *SETUP Doom Options: Unless you are a hardcore Doomer and familiar with the Boom source port, don't worry about this option menu. Bindings: This menu allows you to set your key bindings. Note: This menu is still being worked on. Weapons: Menu to set the weapon priority order. Automap: Configures the automap colors Enemies: Sets the behavior for the enemies (no effect on gameplay overall) *END GAME -Quits current game, not exit SvStrife. *SCREENSIZE -Sets the size of the screen *MOUSE -Sets the sensitivity of the mouse X/Y axis *SETTINGS SFX Volume, Music Volume - sets the volume of the sound and music. Voice/Speech Volume - toggles on or off. =================== In the game =================== *Game HUD: -The Status Bar at the bottom of the screen shows your current health, armor, and inventory items. Pressing + will hide the status bar. Press - will being it back up. During the game, pressing ESC will bring up the menu. Messages for item pickup and other alerts will appear on the top left screen. *Pop up Screens: -There are three different pop up screens (you can set the key bindings for them in the bindings menu). The three screens are: -Status *This displays what weapons you currently own, how much ammo you have, your accuracy level and stamina. -Objectives *Shows the world clock and current objectives. -Keys *Shows the keys you own. *NPC: -There are non-enemies that wonder thoughout the game. Some provide information while others sell items. There are some that may even pose a threat. Avoid killing NPC's as it may trigger alarms, causing enemies to flood in the area. Press the USE key to talk to an NPC. *NPC Menu: -During a conversation you will be given a menu featuring the picture of the NPC, the name, and the dialog text. You also may be given several replies you can choose from. Some replies however, may get you killed. *Switches: -There are switches thoughout the game, all activate something, even traps. *ForceFields: -Only way to destroy them is to deactivate them by a switch *Using Stealth: -One of the most important aspects in the game. Shooting like a madman will easily get you killed. Instead use your dagger and crossbow. Its best to NOT use your crossbow in the Town area as it can easily set off guards. There are some areas however, that will require you to shoot everything in sight. *Life after death: -If you die (better luck next time) you will automatically respawn and load the last saved game. Press the USE key to reload the game, or load the game in the menu. *Harmful floors: -If you happen to step in Nukage, the screen will blink a green tint for a while, then afterwards, you will begin taking damage. Using an environmental suit will prevent this. *Areas: -Strife is divded into 31 areas. As you transfer from one area to another, the game will automatically save. =================== Weapons =================== *Dagger -Your first weapon, not very strong either. However, the more your stamina increases, the more stronger your dagger gets. *Crossbow -Your first real weapon. The Crossbow is perfect for stealth. The Crossbow uses two different ammo. Shock Arrows and Poison Arrows. Careful using shock arrows as it can set off noises when the arrow hits a wall. Poison arrows triggers no sound and can also kill an enemy with a single shot. Works on any enemy that 'bleeds'. This means that the poison arrow is useless against mechanical enemies. *Assault Rifle -The standard weapon. Uses clips for ammo, very noisy. *Mini Rocket Launcher -Shoots rockets. Nuff said. Uses minirockets for ammo. *Grenade Launcher -Shoots two grenades that bounces off walls. It uses two different ammos. High-Explosive Grenades and White-Phosphorous Grenades. White-Phosphorous Grenades are very dangerous to use as it can fill the entire area with flames. But deals very heavy damage to mechanical enemies. *Flame Thrower -Hurls gobs of fire at an enemy. Not good for crowded enemies. Uses cells for ammo. *Mauler -It can vaporize attackers and comes with two modes of fire. it also uses the same ammo as the flamethrower. Scatter Mode The standard mode of fire fires lots of smaller energy balls. Takes out most enemies in 1-2 shots. Torpedo Mode Fires a ball of energy that on impact splits into lots of balls clearing out entire rooms in a couple of shots. Uses lots of energy, though. *Sigil -The Sigil of The One God is a very powerful weapon. It fires lightnings that make massive damage. However, it drains life from the wielder. Depening on the number of pieces you have collected you get different attacks. 1 Piece (4 HP) Causes lightnings to rain from the sky. If used on an enemy the lightnings will rain on it, if no enemy is targeted the lightnings will rain on yourself. It wont damage you, though. 2 Pieces (8 HP) In this form the Sigil fires a single lightning bolt that makes massive damage. 3 Pieces (12 HP) This form shoots out lightning bolts in a circle around the player. Useful for crowd control. 4 Pieces (16 HP) This form shoots a single lightning bolt. The difference is that now it homes in on targets 5 Pieces (20 HP) The final Sigil is very impressive. It fires a lightning that shoots out lightning bolts as it progresses. It causes huge damage to lots of enemies. *Ammo Satchel -The Ammo Satchel doubles the ammo capacity for all kinds of ammo. Although only one can be carried picking up another one will replenish all kinds of ammo. =================== Inventory =================== There are alot of inventory items to find, some of them are used as part of a quest, while others can be used as items. You can view the item in your status bar, and can cycle through them. You may even drop an item from your inventory. =================== Cheats =================== Just type these while playing to activate.
