THOPOST2 - Theme Outpost21 (version 2) - for DOOM II v1.9 NOTE: THOPOST2 requires THEME17.ZIP for the Alien-Predator-Terminator resources and patch. You can get theme17.zip here: ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/idgames/themes/apt/theme17.zip THOPOST2 also requires a Source Port which can import DeHackEd patches and pwads containing sprite data - such as MBF, PRboom, Boom, etc. (do not use Legacy v1.28 or ZDoom v1.18b - see below). You against ALIEN, PREDATOR and TERMINATOR in a "small outpost on a distant planet". This is a modified version of THOPOST.WAD which was originally supplied in THEME17.ZIP. The original version of THOPOST.WAD is also available without the main A.P.T. resources in THOPOST.ZIP. Original authors: Theme patch v1.7 Werner Spahl ui22273@sun1.lrz-muenchen.de Outpost 21 Scott Amspoker sda@rt66.com Version 2 mods by: Sparky of KISS Software kelm@eisa.net.au Theme Outpost21 has been updated with the kind permission of the original author, Scott Amspoker (sda@rt66.com). Checkout his Home Page at http://www.rt66.com/sda. It looks like Scott's more into motocross than Doom these days, in fact in his email he said "Wow. I didn't realize that Doom was still popular". Mods made by Sparky of KISS Software: - converted the level to DOOM II and added a Super Shotgun (it's in the armory where most of the weapons are). - added the texture patches from the original Doom I version (welcome back startan1). - added a second .deh file for the level name - added the sky texture from the Doom II version of opost21.wad - created a "Outpost 21" level-name graphic for MAP01 - used the same level name graphic for the "New Game" menu option. - added a Title Screen showing a screen shot from Theme Outpost, and the Alien, Predator and Terminator logos used in the movies. - added The Terminator menu bullets - added a Menu Logo showing images of the Alien, the Terminator and the Predator. This version is designed specifically for the Doom Source Ports and does not require patching. You still need theme17.zip which contains theme17.deh and theme17.wad. For example: prboom \ boom -- -deh theme17 thopost2 -file theme17 thopost2 mbf / Start a new game and select "Outpost 21". THOPOST2 tested okay with: MBF v2.03 <--- although the "highres" option is only 640x400 this is the best of the three for THOPOST3. The only thing missing is a mouse-look feature like in ZDoom or Legacy, but alas... (see below). PRboom v2.02 Boom v2.02 THOPOST2 will not work with: Any version of Doom I or Ultimate Doom 'Plain Vanila' Doom II ZDoom v1.18b - lots of wierd bugs with several of the new monsters - the Menu Logo is badly distorted if the screen resolution ratio is not the same as Doom's original 320x200 (eg. 640x400). - the menu color palette is faulty. Legacy v1.28 - some things are transparent which should be solid. - the Menu Logo crashes the game. If I change the screen offset then it is wrong in ALL other ports. This is a bug in Legacy as the new 320x82 m_doom graphic even works in 'Plain Vanilla' Doom. - Legacy can only import one DeHackEd patch at a time. * Copyright / Permissions * The original author's request still stands: "Authors may NOT use this level as a base to build additional levels." Author Info : The level was designed and created by Scott Amspoker (OPOST21.WAD), I only modified it to demonstrate the various possibilities of the Theme Doom Patch! Description (read this!): TO PLAY THIS LEVEL THE CORRECT WAY YOU MUST INSTALL THE THEME DOOM PATCH 1.7! In the near future: After the complete destruction of their main computer laboratory a long time ago CYBERDYNE SYSTEMS stopped their chip projects and succeeded in the construction of expensive fighting machines due to a remaining Terminator arm and eye witness testaments. The WEYLAND-YUNTANI Corporation, still suffering from the loss of a whole colony, used the genetic information isolated from Alien secretions on board of the returned Marine cruiser Sulaco to dev- elop primitive but cheap clone Trooper. Joining their efforts to create an entirely artificial military force the two companies started battle-testing in a small outpost on a distant planet. Experiments were running regulary with new more defensive Terminators when creatures similar to the Aliens recently described attacked the station. Specimen were captured to study their use as biological weapons, but a new threat appeared in the form of semi-invisible warriors. Quite obviously these Predators hunted the Aliens, but soon began to fight everyone else too. At this point somebody transmitted a distress call to the Marine corps but on further inquiries all problems were denied and an intervention of the Marines strictly refused. As rumours of illegal military activities of the two corporations had spread already, nevertheless a quickly assembled Marine task- force was send off in one of the first hyperspace spaceships that was by chance under your command. The small team consisting of an adviser, an android and the usual bunch of Marines had just left your ship when some wild shooting and yelling started. Taking the elevator from the landing place up to the outpost you wonder what the hell had happened! Additional Credits to : Scott Amspoker for the original level, Raphael Quinet and Brendon J.
