<< M U L T I S K I N - P R O - v1.0 >> FOR MULTIPLAYER QUAKE - DEATHMATCH/CO-OP [[Enhanced Multiskin]] ** QUALITY before QUANTITY - Accept No Substitutes!! ** "One hell of a fun way to play the greatest game of all time!" =============================================================================== MULTISKIN PRO Additional Quake-C coding by PiGBOY - BMair@Direct.Ca MULTISKIN PRO Texture Upgrading by BUKE - MBuckton@Direct.Ca MULTISKIN PRO's home - http://www.dsoe.com/people/kwairt/quake/quake.htm MultiSkin Pro was made possible thanks to Dennis Noordsij (who created the original MultiSkin patch) & was kind enough to extend the use of the MultiSkin name/data for us to make the kool new changes & extras found in Multiskin Pro. =============================================================================== MULTISKIN PRO is a much upgraded version of Multiskin 1.1 that now gives the ability to change your character into 21 different textures + 1 hidden texture (*the Biosuit* you must pick it up to wear it) when playing multiplayer Quake. MULTISKIN PRO also gives the Server the option to switch on extra enhancements made specifically for the whole MultiSkin Experience. - NEW: ALL textures now have the AXE Texture & MUZZLE FLASH Texture. Some work was also done on "glow-in-the-dark" color palette problems. - NEW: ALL textures now have texture specific HEAD-GIBS!! yup, all of them. (Head gibs were made for those that had none) - NEW: Textures now stay on dead bodies after player respawns. You can now leave your corpse lookin like it did when you were alive.. you can even change textures & the corpse will stay as it was (This is a good way for players in a 2 player game to get a good look at them all.) - NEW: Textures stay as chosen through level changing. (no more "oops, I forgot to change my texture back on.") Once a Predator, always a Predator. - NEW: Biosuit is now actually worn when picked up! This is actually fun to watch someone do a quick change right in front of your eyes. Once worn off you return to who you were. - NEW: Texture Color Suggestion. You might notice when cycling through textures that your color keeps changing.. this is our "color suggestion mode", it makes the texture you have chosen look good (i.e. no color palette problems). We call this "color suggestion" since it is merely a suggestion & NOT locked, so you could change to whatever color you wanted once at the texture you chose.. we would still suggest however that you left it at the color it gives you. The Quake guy will be the color of whatever last texture you cycled from before him.. he naturally can be changed to whatever color without any problems.. hell, it's his game. :) - NEW: Added 8 Kool new "A-quality" textures like Quakes's ENFORCER, DOOM Grunt, JASON, BOSSK, HAN SOLO, the CROW, C3P0 and O.J.!! Some textures from MultiSkin v1.1 were axed as we now would prefer "Quality before Quantity". SERVER SWITCHABLE EXTRAS: (default is OFF) ------------------------ - NEW: Dead Players AND Head Gibs are now "SOLID-&-GIBBABLE-&-MOVABLE- Until-They-Vanish". In other words.. Jason (Friday the 13th) could keep gibbin' a lying corpse or head gib with his hatchet til it's gone.. or simply push it into a nearby pool of lava. :) * Note - corpses become gibbable once the soul has left (i.e. respawn) - NEW: Added "mini-gibblet-n-blood" to player pain. When you are shot you now bleed & throw out a mini gibblet.. this is not excessive, very subtle.. just looks a wee bit more painful. Also works when you fall from a high jump (looks like you jumped onto a ketchup pack) and when you are in a non-player-friendly swamp. - NEW: Bloody Floating Head. When you grab the invisibility power up you now get a floating decapitated head instead of the eyes. When you run around you leave a stream of blood. This is also a texture specific thing! Fun to watch. KNOWN BUGS: ----------- Well, not really a bug, more like an irritation. If player1 is too close to player2's corpse as player2 respawns, player1 might get stuck in player2's body. Remedy: shoot or hack your way out with an axe :) =============================================================================== T E X T U R E S * = newest texture changes =============================================================================== 1. Heads HAD to be made, if you have any problems/grievances please e-mail me. =============================================================================== Q) What is MULTISKIN PRO and why should I care? A) MULTISKIN PRO is an upgraded Multiskin 1.1 that gives you the ability to change your character into 21 different textures + 1 hidden texture. Q) Hidden Texture?? A) Yes. The 22nd texture is now the BIOSUIT. It activates when you actually grab it and turns you back to whoever you were when it wares off. Q) Are the textures the same as Multiskin 1.1? A) No. The BEST ones were left in but the less popular ones are gone. *** MULTISKIN PRO WILL ALWAYS BE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY *** Some sign of effort and originality must be present instead of just drawing on top of someone elses hard work. Also, head gibs would be a good thing to think about for you future texture makers. =============================================================================== I N S T A L L A T I O N =============================================================================== Setting Up: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** If you are a PLAYER (Client) *** [i.e. someone that will connect to a server] You need the Client PAK0.PAK (Found in the CLIENT folder in MULTIPRO.ZIP) You simply make a 'SKINS' sub-directory from your QUAKE directory & just add the PAK0.PAK to it like so: \ [YOUR QUAKE DIR] \ SKINS \ PAK0.PAK Then you start Quake with the "-game skins -winmem 10" paramater (the "-winmem 10" is now a neccessary evil due to the amount of skins) or for internet Quake: "q95 -game skins -winmem 10". Quake will then use this .pak file just for the extra texture information. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** If you are a DEDICATED server *** You need the Dedicated PAK0.PAK (Found in the DSERVER folder in MULTIPRO.ZIP) You simply make a 'SKINS' sub-directory from your QUAKE directory & just add the PAK0.PAK to it like so: \ [YOUR QUAKE DIR] \ SKINS \ PAK0.PAK Then you add "-game skins -winmem 10" to your startup commandline string. (the "winmem 10" is now a neccessary evil due to the amount of skins) All clients that connect (who are setup for MultiSkin) will then be able to change their skins and see the skins on other players, clients that don't have the MultiSkin PAK0.PAK won't be effected.. they can just play as normal. All Clients can experience the extra SERVER SWITCHABLE stuff, just without the benefit of the foating head being texture specific for those without the MultiSkin PAK0.PAK. * * * R E M E M B E R * * * THE CLIENTS DO NOT *REQUIRE* NEW FILES! EVERYBODY WILL BE ABLE TO CONNECT, THE CLIENTS WITH THE NEW PAK0.PAK WILL SEE NEW SKINS, THE OTHER CLIENTS WILL JUST SEE WHAT THEY ALWAYS SEE. BY USING THIS NEW .PAK FILE YOU ARE NOT SACRIFICING ANYTHING, EVERYBODY CAN CONNECT. CLIENTS DO NOT *REQUIRE* NEW FILES, IT IS OPTIONAL. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *** If you are a LISTEN server *** You need the Listen PAK0.PAK (Found in the LSERVER folder in MULTIPRO.ZIP) You simply make a 'SKINS' sub-directory from your QUAKE directory & just add the PAK0.PAK to it like so: \ [YOUR QUAKE DIR] \ SKINS \ PAK0.PAK Then you start Quake with the "-game skins -winmem 10" paramater (the "-winmem 10" is now a neccessary evil due to the amount of skins) or for internet Quake: "q95 -game skins -winmem 10". Quake will then use this .pak file for the extra texture information & the bonus Quake-C data. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, I'm using the new PAK0.PAK and I have connected to a MultiSkin server, now how do I change skins? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simple, you bind "IMPULSE 200" to a key, for example Q (type 'bind q "impulse 200" ' in the console) and whenever you press the q your skin will go up one & you will see a message saying which skin you now have. Whenever you respawn you will see a message reminding you which skin you have. So if you start and press q, you will see "SKIN: Duke Nukem 3d (1)". This means you have now skin (1), which is Duke Nukem's skin. if you press q again you will see "SKIN: Toad (2)". This means you now have the skin of a cool looking toad. To be able to cycle backward through your skins bind "IMPULSE 201" to another key just as you did with Impulse 200. Then you can cycle up and down, a big improvement if you are one of those guys that always seems to cycle past the character you want. DOH! :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXTRA GOODIES (Server Switchable Extras) **FOR DEATHMATCH ONLY** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Extra goodies can be set by the server (Dedicated or Listen) via the command line or the console. To turn on extra goodies use the following: +teamplay 3 (This turns on extra goodies WITHOUT friendly fire. In other words, not really teamplay.. everyone can be hurt still.) +teamplay 4 (This turns on extra goodies WITH friendly fire for a proper teamplay game, i.e. a Duke Nukem won't hurt a Duke Nukem) This is still done by color.. so you could in actuality have a team of different characters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MULTISKIN PRO gives a huge "Thank You!" to: Dennis Noordsij - lnoordsi@inter.NL.net for creating MULTISKIN (the 1st multiple texture changer made available.) http://web.inter.NL.net/users/L.J.Noordsij/qc.htm Dennis is a great guy & was kind enough to let us use his MultiSkin name just for compatibility sake. thanx again Dennis! Rene Post - renep@xs4all.nl for QuakeME 2.3 (Animation Viewer and Texture editor for MDL files) One excellent texture editor! Biff (maintainer of the Quake Grinder) http://www.zipnet.net/~biff/qgrinder/ For storing textures on his site, therefore giving access to the newest and the best! Go to Biff's and see how many textures there really are. id Software for QUAKE, QUAKE-C and also for simply making our pathetic lives a hell of a lot more enjoyable!! We love you guys. :~) =============================================================================== PLEASE DO NOT ALTER THIS PROGRAM IN ANY WAY - A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT WENT INTO MAKING MULTISKIN PRO JUST THE WAY IT IS. THIS PATCH WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE IF IT WASN'T FOR id SOFTWARE IN THE FIRST PLACE (duh).. SO IF THEY DISAPPROVE IN ANY WAY, WE APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE & WILL DO WHATEVER IS NEEDED TO QUICKLY RECTIFY THE SITUATION. <> - M U L T I S K I N - P R O - Accept No Substitutes!! (unless it's made by id of course) thassit.. now go gib!!
