I downloaded it Saturday from Compuserve. Here's the info from the README file: *************************************************************************** * TORNADO * * version 1.0C * * Read Me text file * * 10/26/93 * *************************************************************************** This version of TORNADO incorporates many fixes to previously reported problems and several enhancements to existing features. To use this patch, copy all of the files on this disk into your TORNADO directory. For example, type "COPY B:*.* C:\TORNADO" if your TORNADO program is on drive C in a directory named "TORNADO." Then type "PATCH" from your TORNADO directory. The update program will then replace or modify the necessary files to update your copy of TORNADO to version 1.0C. You can identify version 1.0C by looking for the version number in the lower right-hand corner of the TORNADO loading screen. In addition, the file creation date for AMP.EXE will be changed to 10-21-93. PROGRAM FIXES ------------- Problems with sounds either dropping out or playing through the Ad Lib driver have been corrected. An improved joystick calibration routine has been added. TORNADO is now compatible with the US Robotics 14.4 modem for head-to-head play. Flightplans modified in Campaign can now be saved. In earlier versions of TORNADO, your plane had to come to a complete stop on a runway before you could end a mission successfully. A ground speed of less than 30 knots is now sufficient. In earlier versions of TORNADO, enemy fighters were able to perform exceptional barrel roll maneuvers in order to stay behind your Tornado. This has been corrected; enemy plane maneuvers are now more realistic. The lack of a promotion at the end of Campaign Level 1 has been corrected. Air victories being credited improperly in the pilot log has been corrected. PROGRAM ENHANCEMENTS -------------------- The "Review" feature now has full mouse control through both Demo and Options. Rudder pedals are supported. The Explore Mode is now fixed to daytime. A digital readout had been added to the fuel gauge. A Dogfight Mode has been added. If you press the fire button, the air-to-air radar and weapons will be activated if weapons were not armed. When you turn on the air-to-air radar, it will range automatically with respect to the currently selected weapon. The drone view now shows aircraft designations. SAMs are no longer always fatal, but more damage will be received. A proximity alarm sounds when SAMs are very close. The ZRK-Romb SAM launcher has been changed to a ZREK-BD Strela 10. MEMORY MANAGERS --------------- QEMM (versions 7.0 and later) features DOS-UP which links upper and base memory. This may cause insufficient memory error messages with TORNADO. We suggest that you turn off the DOS-UP feature by inserting "REM" in front of that line in your CONFIG.SYS file. You will lose approximately 3K of RAM, but TORNADO will now run. 386MAX (versions 7.0 and later) has a similar feature called EXTRADOS. This may also cause insufficient memory error messages with TORNADO. We suggest that you turn off the EXTRADOS feature by inserting "REM" in front of the line that relocates your COMMAND.COM file. This will allow TORNADO to run. GENERAL INFORMATION ------------------- TORNADO is not compatible with version 9.0 of the Microsoft Mouse driver. To turn off the warning lights, press "*" (asterisk) on the numeric keypad. "Shift+8" changes the sound selection. The install program cannot automatically make a boot disk if Stacker or DoubleSpace is used on your hard drive. You must manually insert the appropriate commands in your CONFIG.SYS file. Refer to the documentation for those products for detailed information. If you have a Pro Audio Spectrum sound card, you should choose the "Ad Lib" driver in the Preferences screen. Weapons not used on a mission are not returned to your airfield inventory. In Simulator mission #12, you start slightly northeast of waypoint C, not heading north between waypoints D and E. -- Joel Murray / Vancouver, British Columbia / Canada, Eh? I went through Gary Coopers (not the dead one) Internet address list and could not find DI's internet address. Could someone please repost that address (or forward the following) My idea would be a flight sim called Air Show! We have discussed in the past the idea in general, and many have staged their own air show at Nellis in F3/Mig :-) How bout a sim dedicated to and airshow theme with hi end flight models and ground graphics (which DI seems to really have a handle on). Some feature might be: -Pylon racing in a Mustang. My favorite. Hearing that Merlin scream as you race around the pylons at 200 knts just 30 feet off the ground. A modem or netork connection would allow you to fly with, say, 6 other planes. Or they could do the thing Chuck Yeagers Air Trainer did and let you save races so you could race yourself.! -Stunt flying in a plane of your choice. Climb into a Pitts Special and go at it! All the special effects (smoke etc) and a recorder. Again, two or more over a net or serila connection would allow for multiplayer teams! -High Performance jet team flying. Ala Blue Angels, Thunder Birds, Snow Birds, etc. Self explanatory. Again, a net of serila connection. -Parachuting??? Now this is visionary :-0 hehe It would be cool it you could be a member of the Golden Knights and execute jump formations and precision landings just in front of the pits. -Beer drinking and sausage eating. kinda hard to model in a sim. But it is one of my favorite things to at an airshow. Think of the digitized belches comin through your sound card! :-) That is all I can think of right at the moment. Something like this could be a real adventure to fly with alot of replayability. Best of all, those with loud consciences would not feel bad after laying down a barage of CBU's over those poor, mal armed enemy troops. Thats is, you don't have to kill in this one to have a good time. Not that I mind sending an explosive laden radar quided missile down someone's throat once in a while. hehe Again, if someone has DI's address I would appreciate it.
