Hi, This is a question I've asked on News, and got a few answers re Tornado and Falcon, I wonder if anyone on the list would like to add their opinions (particularly re Harrier sims). I'll mail a summary to the list: ---- Any opinions on which is the 'best' sim to run on a 386DX? The Tornado demo looks good - does the commercial version require more computer power? Does it have more 'views' than the demo, particularly a 'head-up through the HUD', and a padlock view would be nice! Does the Desert Storm add-on have good landscape? Particularly the 'Star wars' canyons? Do the Iraqui fighters ever take off? For Falcon3 does the commercial version require more power than the demo? Does it have more details (landscape etc). Are the scenarios real places? How do the Harrier (AV8) sims compare? (To each other and to Tornado/Falcon). What is the landscape like, do they have air-to-air or just mud moving? Do any include RAF/RN (Falklands) scenarios? TIA for any help or opinions, email me or the list as you like! Sometimes I want to look far ahead with the radar, but having the threat indicator set to the distance "masks" the closer threat symbols. How do you get the SLAM missiles to work? I love the SLAMs in Strike Eagle III, but I can't figure out the targeting sequence in USNF. When I use an IR Seeker pod, I can't find anything until I'm almost on top of it (7-8 miles); for a missile with a MUCH longer range, this seems silly. When I try to use the radar to find targets, it won't see the targets I want. Has anyone else seen the "Hogs from Hell" in a Quick Mission? Last night I decided to check out how good the opponants were, so I created a quick mission using all the same settings and just changing the opponants aircraft. Myself and a Regular wingman, flying A7s, guns only, against two Experienced enemy pilots. Since I wanted to see how good the Russian-made planes were, I started the sequence at the end of the list of available planes and worked my way back to the beginning. Against most of the Russian planes, including the MiG 29 - no problem. Against most of the American planes - no problem (although it took a few tries to win against the F15 Eagles without losing my wingman). But when I finally got to the A10s, I got creamed. I know....I know....since they're designed as ground attack planes, they are HIGHLY manuverable and very resistant to damage. I figured they'd be using angles manuvers, so I stuck with energy tactics. Well, I got whipped again....and again....and again...in fact, I tried that mission 14 times and never survived. So I thought I needed a fighter designed for energy tactics, and tried the same mission again, but this time put us into F18s. Even dumping the air- ground armament, after completing my first pass I couldn't extend fast enough to escape those 30mm cannons. So I tried again....and again...and again....another 10 times without surviving! Then I tried flying the F22 against those 'Hogs....and again....and again...and again...I now have 30 missions against them without surviving. Has anyone else gone guns only against these "Hogs from Hell" and survived? Tell me how! Not that I am aware of. >How do you get the SLAM missiles to work? I love the SLAMs in >Strike Eagle III, but I can't figure out the targeting sequence >in USNF. This sim is really pretty. There are serious flight model problems (you can take off without using a cat, :-(), but it's really nice on the eyes. It's also one of the first sims that models AOA well enough, that you can land easily with a positive AOA. Not to mention, that it's really cool to see it in a spin. :-) -Jeff - -- Jeff Beadles jeff@k9.com ------------------------------- [[ End of digest Volume 2 : Issue 68 ]]
