In this regard, I just read a bunch of posts on the similarly hyped ultra- realistic Su-27 Flanker sim, distributed in USA by SSI (fabled wargame co.), developed by a UK company with help from former Eastern Bloc aerospace engineers. There have been some nice demos floating around the Net, and I played with one and was ready to buy, but... Posts in SSI's area on AOL indicate that the product shipped the other day, but with a lot of promised features missing. In particular, the shipped version is Win95 only, while hype had indicated the CD would contain several executables optimized for different situations (Win95, DOS/fast, DOS/slower CPU). Head-to-head is missing, campaign editor incomplete, sounds are limited, "encyclopedia" that gives weapon/platform info missing, etc. The buyers and cynics are crying foul, guessing that the desire for Xmas sales forced them to ship an incomplete product. Oh yes -- they forgot to include a key for checking your six o'clock! I'm holding off on my purchase, and maybe I'll buy EF2000 instead (any word on when this will actually ship? A guy on AOL claimed several weeks ago that it had been sent out for mastering, but who knows until it shows up in the stores!). Thanks. So I'll continue to move mud with my new/old love Tornado, and engage Flankers with subsonic Harriers in Marine Fighters until the Next Big Thing *ACTUALLY* comes along. -Bruce Irving, OpticsDude@aol.com, bruce@opticalres.com ------------------------------- [[ End of digest Volume 3 : Issue 32 ]]
